Supporting Veterans
My 2020 Position
When first running, I promised to do everything in my power as State Rep. to advocate for and serve our veterans. I ran to increase support for veterans to ensure that they can be well equipped to transition themselves back into our community.
What I’ve Accomplished
I sponsored and voted for the following legislation to support our veterans:
HB 0359 to create a veterans’ accountability unit to take complaints and ensure state services for veterans are being distributed properly.
HB 3150 to amend the Counties Code and Illinois Municipal Code and allows for veterans who were honorably discharged from the Armed Forces and is a resident of the county or municipality to not have to pay county or municipal licensing fees for a business or service if the veteran is the sole proprietor of the business.
HB 4043 which amends the Property Tax Code and allows for veterans with a service connected disability of 100% to not have to reapply for the homestead exemption for veterans with disabilities.
I Introduced HB 5385, which amends the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Act by requiring the Department of Veterans' Affairs to contract with a non-profit organization to serve as the State's principal assistance organization under the U.S. Department of Defense's SkillBridge program for employers and transitioning service members.
Future Plans
I pledge to continue using my position as State Representative to advocate for veterans in our community, and to find ways to make sure they have access to necessary resources.
