ROCKFORD, IL. – 68th District candidate and small business owner Dave Vella condemns John Cabello’s lawsuit against the stay-at-home order.

On the same day Illinois announced its highest single day death toll (144 people) from the COVID-19 pandemic and 23 new cases in Winnebago County, there is no justification for this lawsuit John Cabello has announced his intent to file to invalidate the stay-at-home order.

This amounts to nothing more than political grandstanding by Cabello. He is using the same attorney and tactics as Rep. Darren Bailey, who has been widely criticized for filing a similar lawsuit. Cabello was wrong last month when he mocked medical experts and accused the state of overreacting to the pandemic, and he’s wrong to file this lawsuit now. It is disrespectful to all of the victims of this pandemic.

“As a small business owner I understand the difficult situation this shelter-in-place order has put so many people and local businesses in,” Vella said. “But now is not the time for self-promotion. Our community has been through so much during this crisis already. This lawsuit is reckless and seems to be about John and his politics, not our community.”

“This is a situation that demands a measured, controlled response. Rather than wasting time and resources in our courts and sending out political press releases trying to get attention. Rep. Cabello should be working with state and local leaders, medical experts, and economic experts to develop solutions to get us out of this crisis and focus on reviving our economy. That is what elected officials are supposed to do,”  Vella added.

Dave Vella is the Democratic candidate for State Representative in the 68th District, which includes all or part of Rockford, Loves Park, Machesney Park, and Roscoe.
