ROCKFORD, IL. – 68th District candidate and small business owner Dave Vella today called on local leaders to create an Economic Recovery Team to help guide the Stateline area through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The goal of the “Stateline Economic Recovery Team” would be to advise local leaders on maintaining economic stability, to help develop policies that would make the recovery faster and more efficient, and to coordinate any state or federal resources coming into the area. To assist with these goals, there should be input from large and small business owners, labor unions, and other economic stakeholders.

“As we continue to successfully slow this pandemic, we have to lay the groundwork for a strong economic recovery,” Vella said. “The best way to minimize permanent job loss from the pandemic is to make sure that we are able to begin recovery the same day pandemic restrictions are eased or lifted. Setting up an Economic Recovery Team now will make that much easier.”

The team should coordinate with other teams that might be set up in surrounding counties and communities, existing organizations that focus on economic development, and other relevant stakeholders. “This isn’t a political issue. We need a measured, effective, all hands-on-deck approach so that we can get our community moving and working again,” Vella added.

Dave Vella is the Democratic candidate for State Representative in the 68th District, which includes all or part of Rockford, Loves Park, Machesney Park, and Roscoe.
